Drivers in the US who are conscious of their carbon footprint today got their first look at Mercedes latest diesel offering.

The car maker claimed that its BlueTEC ML320 SUV is the cleanest diesel around when it was unveiled at the New York Motor Show today.

It was exhibited alongside others in the SUV range including the R320 BlueTEC GL320 BlueTEC which all use special technology to help make their engine more efficient.

But it is not just their green credentials which are likely to attract drivers both in the US and Europe to these luxury cars.

They all also contain an extensive number of state-of-the art features which make them ideal for business use and as family cars.

Some of the most appealing of these include Bluetooth connectivity, a Harmon Kardon sound system and a hugely advanced safety system.

The BlueTEC SUVs will initially be available only in the US but are expected to be rolled out across Europe in the future.
